Description
Disinterred 15th-century body. 19th-century artwork of a disinterred body swathed in burial cloths, thought to date from the 15th century. This body was discovered in 1852 by workmen excavating in the crypt under St Stephen's Chapel, Westminster, London, UK. A report by the Society of Antiquaries concluded that the body was likely to be that of William Lyndwood (c.1375-1446), Bishop of St David's. The investigating committee included antiquarians James Prior, Thomas Pettigrew, William Thoms, John Bruce and John Yonge Akermann. Published in Volume 34, Issue 2 (1852) of 'Archaeologia', the journal of the Society of Antiquaries of London.
