Description
Tracks of charged particles in the 72-inch bubble chamber at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory. The tracks streaming up from below are negative kaons. Two of them interact with protons in the chamber's liquid to produce the typical short, kinked tracks of a positive sigma (lower centre) & a negative sigma (upper centre), together with negative & positive pions. The positive sigma decays to a positive pion & a neutron (which is neutral & therefore unseen); the negative sigma higher up decays to a negative pion & a neutron. Negative particles curve clockwise, positive particles anticlockwise in the chamber's magnetic field.
