Description
False-colour bubble chamber photograph showing the associated production of two strange particles (particles containing a strange quark). A negative pion (green) enters from below & interacts with a proton in the liquid filling the bubble chamber, producing two strange particles: a lambda & a neutral kaon. Because they are both neutral, these particles leave no tracks, but they betray their presence when they decay. The lambda turns into a proton (red) & a negative pion (green); the neutral kaon into a positive pion (yellow) & a negative pion (green). The blue tracks are particles not involved in the interaction.
