Description
New York City, USA, and the surrounding area, satellite image. North is at top. Urban areas are grey, rural areas are green and water is blue. The area seen is about 80 kilometres across. New York City (NYC), mostly at centre right, is separated from New Jersey (left) by the Hudson River (down centre). Staten Island (lower left) is also part of NYC. The other four areas of NYC are Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens and Brooklyn. These last two are on Long Island (centre right). Long Island Sound (top right) and New York Bay (lower right) are joined by the East River. The image data was obtained on 7 June 2015 by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) sensor on the Landsat 8 satellite.
