Description
Western Pacific Ocean, seafloor map. North is at top. Eastern Asia is at upper left, with the Malay Archipelago at centre left and lower left, and Australia at bottom left. The seabed depth varies from shallow (light blue) on the continental shelves, to deep (dark blue) in the ocean basins. The main features are the oceanic ridges and subduction zones around the edge of the Pacific Ocean (the Ring of Fire), including the Marianas Trench (above and left of centre), which includes the deepest point in the world's oceans. The topography of the ocean basins has been depicted using ETOPO2-2 (Earth Topography) satellite altimetry data. The land areas use data from the Blue Marble satellite mosaic.
