Description
Global transport networks on night map. Map of the world with city lights (yellow) at night overlaid by major transport networks on land, in the air, and by sea. These include road networks (green), shipping lanes (blue), and airline flight paths (red). The data represents 87,000 airplane flights, 3500 ships, and over 1 billion motor vehicles. Some areas are remote and poorly served by transport links (the Amazon, the Sahara, the Arctic, Antarctica). Other places have dense concentrations of such links, particularly North America, Europe and South-East Asia. This data illustrates human impact on the planet, known as the anthroposphere or technosphere.
