Description
Vannevar Bush (1890-1974), US electrical engineer and science administrator. Bush served as a US navy research engineer during the First World War, then worked at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) developing a digital analyser and analogue computers. During the Second World War, he was chairman of the National Defence Research Committee and played a major part in the Manhattan Project (to produce the atomic bomb). His works included 'As We May Think' (1945) and 'Science, The Endless Frontier' (1945). Photographed in 1938 or 1939, when he was President of the Carnegie Institution of Washington (1938-1955).
