Description
Weather balloon release. US physicists preparing to release a weather balloon during tests for the US National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology). A device on the weather balloon called a radiometeorograph will transmit pressure, temperature and humidity recordings back to a receiver in the weather station (hut in background, see C013/0229). At left is Allen Varley Astin (1904-1984) of the Bureau's Electrical Division. At right is Leon F. Curtiss (born 1895), head of the Bureau's Radium Division.
