Description
Meteorological radio equipment. US physicist Allen Varley Astin (1904-1984) of the US National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology), testing radio equipment designed to receive and record weather measurements. The device is known as a chronograph, and it is recording signals sent down from a radiometeorograph attached to a weather balloon (see C013/0230 for the release of the weather balloon). Astin later served as Director of the National Bureau of Standards between 1951 and 1969. Photographed on 13 September 1937, in Washington DC, USA.
