The Great Lakes that lie on the border of Canada and America are four of the ten largest freshwater lakes in the world. Lake Superior (upper left) is the world's largest, with a surface area of 82,400 square kilometres (km2). The other lakes measure: Lake Michigan (centre left) 58,000 km2; Lake Huron (centre) 59,600 km2; Lake Erie (lower right) 25,700 km2 and Lake Ontario (above and right of Lake Erie) 18,900 km2.
