Description
Teotihuacan, Mexico, satellite image. North is at top. The ruins of this ancient city are at centre, surrounded by modern fields and housing. The city was built by the Toltec civilization and abandoned about 1500 years ago. The main feature is the Pyramid of the Sun (just above and to the right of centre). The alignment of the pyramid means that the Sun is overhead on two days of the year, and the pyramid is also aligned with the rising and setting Sun on certain dates. Image obtained by the Ikonos satellite on 12 October 2001.
