Description
Stratified squamous epithelial tissue, illustration. Epithelial tissues line cavities and surfaces within and on the body. The stratifed squamous type makes up the outer layer of the skin and the internal lining of the mouth. It is tough, with the outer keratinised layer providing extra protection compared to other epithelial tissue types. Cell nuclei are red. For a set of images showing epithelial tissue types, see C023/8593 to C023/8597.
