Description
Small intestine tissue. Digitally enhanced light micrograph of tissue from the ileum, stained with haematoxylin and eosin. The ileum is the final section of the small intestine and serves mainly to absorb vitamin B-12. The tissue shown here is the muscularis propria, the outer layer of muscle tissue in the digestive tract. This layer acts to push food through the digestive tract.
