Description
Simple squamous epithelial tissue, illustration. Epithelial tissues line cavities and surfaces within and on the body. The simple squamous type makes up the linings of the lungs and small blood vessels such as capillaries. The thinness of the tissue layer allows gases to diffuse across. The cells have a typical flattened appearance, with cell nuclei (red). For a set of images showing epithelial tissue types, see C023/8593 to C023/8597.
