Description
Second World War air raid damage. Burning buildings and a damaged tram in the UK city of Sheffield, following an air raid in December 1941 during the Second World War (1939-1945). Over a period of around eight months from September 1940 to May 1941, German aircraft bombed some sixteen British cities, including London. Over 40,000 civilians died and over a million houses and other buildings were destroyed, during what was known as The Blitz. This photograph is from the archives of the New York Times.
