Description
Ribero's world map. 1529 map of the world, published in Seville, Spain, by the Portuguese cartographer and explorer Diego Ribero (died 1533). The title (in Latin) names Ribero and the year and city of publication. The Far East and the Americas are incomplete. Australia and Antarctica have yet to be discovered. The map includes coastal details, compass roses, rhumb lines, navigational instruments, the four winds, text labels, sailing ships, and native flora and fauna. The treaties marking the agreed territories of Spain and Portugal are shown by flags below South America and at lower right. This copy of this map dates from around 1887 (details at bottom left).
