Description
Lights of North America from space. Coloured satellite image of North America at night. North is at top. In this image city lights appear yellow and gas flares from oil production areas are red. Most of the light comes from the continent's cities. The temperate regions of Canada and the United States of America (at centre right) are the most heavily- populated. Arid areas (at centre left) and cold areas (at upper centre) are less populated. The data for this picture was produced as a mosaic of images from American Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) spacecraft.
