Natural History Museum monuments. At centre is the plaque unveiled in 1981 to mark the South Kensington centenary of the Natural History Museum, London, UK. The building on the South Kensington site was opened in 1881. At right is the statue of British anatomist and palaeontologist Sir Richard Owen (1804-1892), founder and first director of the museum. This bronze statue is by English sculptor Thomas Brock, and dates from 1896. Photographed in the museum's Central Hall.
