Description
Portrait of Mark Ptashne (born 1940), US molecular biologist. Ptashne was the first scientist to demonstrate specific binding between protein and DNA. Much of his research has focused on molecular mechanisms in the lifecycle of the virus bacteriophage lambda. He holds the Ludwig Chair of Molecular Biology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he works on gene regulation mechanisms in yeast.
