Description
Lunar crater near Apollo 11 landing site, 1969. NASA's Apollo 11 mission to the Moon took place from 16-24 July 1969. This mission was the first landing by humans on the Moon, with Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin descending to the surface in the Lunar Module, while Michael Collins remained in orbit in the Command Module. Armstrong and Aldrin spent just over 21 hours on the Moon, including two hours outside their lander on 21 July 1969. While exploring the area near their spacecraft, they conducted experiments, collected lunar rock samples, and took photographs. This view looks south-west towards a double crater near Tranquility Base, the Apollo 11 landing site.
