Description
Sequoia and Kings Canyon ecology. Illustration depicting the wealth of biodiversity in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, California, USA. The mountainous alpine area (top) features a glacial lake, above which a red-tailed hawk flies (upper left). Oak-land (left) and chaparral (shrubland, foreground) predominate in the foothills of the mountains. Found here are the bobcat (lower centre), the California quail (bottom right), lupine flowers (blue), and yucca flowers (white, bottom left). Between these two biota is the unique sequoia forest (right) with a bear (lower right) crossing a river. Smoke from a fire rises at upper right. In 1976, this area was designated the UNESCO Sequoia-Kings Canyon Biosphere Reserve.
