Description
Imperial Airways aeroplane. Shell Oil company mobile fuel tank being used to refuel the Imperial Airways Handley Page H.P.42 biplane 'Hanno' in October 1931 at Semakh on the Sea of Galilee. This area was part of Palestine at the time, and is now part of Israel. Imperial Airways (1924 to 1939) was among the first to establish new routes and regular long-range commercial flights across the British Empire. Photographed by the American Colony Photo Department, based in Jerusalem. This aeroplane is operating on a route from the sea of Galilee, following the Jordan Valley down to the Dead Sea and Jericho.
