Description
Image of the near side of the moon showing landing sites of the exploratory probes sent from earth. The colour coding identifies the site to one of the five different series of missions which visited the moon; Luna (pink), Ranger (orange- red), Surveyor (green), Orbiter (purple) and Apollo (blue). Of these only the Soviet Luna probes were not from America and only the Apollo spacecrafts were manned. Further information distinguishing each individual mission in terms of dates, location of landing sites and general aims may be found in SPL files. A similar image, R340/293, covers the far side of the moon.
