Description
Moon wheel chart. Volvelle (wheel chart) from the 1540 book Astronomicum Caesareum. Astronomicum Caesareum is an astronomical atlas that contains early examples of volvelles, in which nested circular pieces of paper rotated by revolving on grommets. In this case, the position of the Moon relative to the Sun and zodiac constellations (written around the edge) can be plotted for a given latitude, time and date. It was made for King Charles V by the German printer Petrus Apianus (1495-1552).
