Description
Basal cell carcinoma, light micrograph. Basal cell (trichoblastic) carcinomas are the most common cutaneous tumours, accounting for approximately 70% of all malignant diseases of the skin. They are slow-growing cancers that rarely metastasize (spread). This very low magnification image shows a large ulcerated basal cell carcinoma located on the back of the hand. Cords and islands of basophilic cells accompanied by an intense inflammatory infiltrate compose the tumour. The scale bar corresponds to 2 mm.
