Description
Lavender leaf. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the micro surface of a Lavender leaf. The hairs provide a micro-climate close to the surface, trapping water vapour and protecting the cells from the heat of the Sun. The stomata, coloured light green function as gas exchangers, taking in carbon dioxide and venting oxygen out into the environment. The capsules, coloured beige, contain the Lavender oil. Magnification: x50 when printed at 10 centimetres tall.
