Athlete's foot fungus. Scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Malassezia sp. yeast cells on the skin of a human foot. This fungus can cause the condition known as athlete's foot. The infection spreads by contact, especially in gyms and showers. The infection can be stopped by bathing with soap and water and applying an appropriate fungicide.
