Light micrograph of a large atheromatous plate located on the aorta wall. An atheroma is accumulation of degenerative material in the inner layer of an artery wall. The material mostly consists of macrophage cells, or debris, containing lipids, calcium and a variable amount of fibrous connective tissue. The scale bar corresponds to 2 mm.
