Description
Asbestos analysis, Researchers in the 1970s using microscopes to examine samples relating to asbestos in the workplace. Asbestos insulation can degrade if exposed, releasing small fibres that can be inhaled deep into the lungs. As the body is unable to degrade the fibres, they cause lung damage due to asbestos (asbestosis) and lung cancers such as mesotheliomas. This work is being carried out at the Health and Safety Executive's laboratories in Cricklewood, London, UK. The Occupational Medicine and Hygiene Laboratory (OMHL) relocated here in 1973, one of the precursor organisations to the Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL).
