Description
Pluto. Synthetic perspective view of the dwarf planet Pluto as if viewed from a distance of around 1800 km over the equator. This view looks over the dark cratered region, informally named Cthulhu Regio towards the bright smooth expanse of icy plains informally called Sputnik Planum. The entire expanse of terrain seen here is 1,800 km across. Imaged by NASA's New Horizons spacecraft on 14th July 2015, from a distance of 80,000 kilometres.
