Description
Illustration of a doctor wearing a Junker inhaler around his neck. In 1867, Dr. Ferdinand Junker introduced his inhaler for bichloride of methylene, which is a mixture of chloroform and methyl alcohol. It was the first inhaler to use the blow-over principle, using a hand-pumped rubber bellows to push air over the liquid anaesthetic. The inhaler was attached to a face mask from which the patient inhaled the anaesthetic vapour.
