At bottom is skeletal muscle, while across top is the tongue's epithelium and specialized mucosa. Cellular proteins are highlighted with fluorescent markers: smooth muscle actin (red), f-actin (green), and cell nuclei (blue). Magnification: x200 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
