Description
Light micrograph of a cross section of a cat tongue stained with Mallory's phosphotungstic haematoxylin. The tongue papillae appear in the upper surface only. The tongue muscle contains an exclusive mixture of crisscrossed bundles of skeletal muscle fibres at right angles. Among these bundles, the clear areas are adipose (fat) tissue.
