Description
Blue whale 'Hope' in Natural History Museum's Hintze Hall. This skeleton, from a blue whale (Balaenoptera musculus) that beached in County Wexford, Ireland in 1891, was installed in the newly refurbished Hintze Hall at the Natural History Museum, London, UK. The skeleton is 25 metres long and weighs 10 tons. Named 'Hope', it was unveiled at the re-opening of the hall on 13 July 2017. This entrance hall to the museum was previously dominated by 'Dippy' the Diplodocus, a dinosaur skeleton cast that was displayed here from 1979 until January 2017. Photographed in July 2017.
