MODEL RELEASED. Transmission electron microscope. Scientist looking at a sample using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). A TEM uses an electron beam to obtain an image of an object. The beam is propelled toward the sample down the column at left. After passing through the sample the electrons are detected and used to form an image.
