Description
Scanning electron microscope. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of the inside of the imaging instrument itself. The hole at centre is the aperture of the microscope, through which the electron beam passes. Surrounding the aperture is a electron detector (yellow) and the rest of the sample chamber of the microscope (blue). The plastic piece (bottom, brown) was used to form a cloud of negatively charged electrons when the electron beam was scanned across it, which then repelled the negatively charged electron beam, acting in a similar way to a fisheye lens.
