Thunderstorms over Brazil, ISS image. Image taken by astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) of the Amazon Basin in Brazil. North is right. A large region of cumulonimbus clouds are forming (bottom left to upper right). The Rio Madeira and Lago Acara rivers run from bottom right to centre. A smoke plume is also visible (bottom middle). The Earth's atmosphere can be seen as a layer of blue haze above the horizon, known as the Earth's limb. Photographed on the 6th October 2009 from the International Space Station (ISS) by an Expedition 20 crew member.
