Description
New Horizons image of the dwarf planet Pluto taken from a distance of 768,000 kilometres. The lower part of Pluto seen here is dominated by a bright feature known as the 'heart', which measures approximately 1,600 kilometres across. Its interior appears featureless, suggesting it is the sight of ongoing geological processes. New Horizons has spent nine and a half years travelling the nearly five billion kilometres to Pluto. Image obtained by the spacecraft's Long Range Reconnaissance Imager (LORRI) on 13th July 2015.
