MODEL RELEASED. Computer-aided neurosurgery. Surgeon using a computer application both to plan brain surgery and to train neurosurgeons. The area of the skull that must be cut in order to expose the appropriate part of the brain is coloured blue. Neurosurgery is the branch of surgery dealing with disorders of the brain, spinal cord and general nervous system. Operations are commonly carried out on the brain to treat tumours, haemorrhages, abcesses and aneurysms, or abnormal arterial dilation. Surgery is also carried out to correct nerve damage resulting from illness or accident.
