Description
Rock pedestal. This landform is the result of gradual erosion of an isolated outcrop of clay-sandstone rock. Abrasion by wind-borne grains of sand mainly occurs nearer the ground, resulting in a greater rate of erosion at the base than at the top. This causes the rock's top-heavy appearance. Photographed in the Tassili n'Ajjer National Park, Algeria.
