Description
Healthy EEG. Coloured image of a healthy electro- encephalogram (EEG) brainwave pattern, a detail of the printout from an 8-channel EEG device. An EEG device records electrical activity inside the brain through a series of electrodes taped over the person's head. The various traces refer to different regions of the brain producing different brainwaves. An EEG is used to diagnose and monitor various disorders of the brain, such as epilepsy in which sudden losses of brain function display characteristic signature pattens on an EEG trace. An EEG may also monitor healthy states of the brain such as during sleep.
