Description
Mathematical brain activity. Co-registered EEG (electroencephalogram) of brain activity during mathematical multiplications superimposed on a horizontal brain scan (grey). The front of the brain is at top. EEGs use electrodes attached to the scalp to measure the brain's electrical potential. Areas involved in solving these problems are orange here. Certain parts of the brain are known to control specific functions. By studying the activities of different areas of the brain, a greater understanding of learning, problem-solving and other cognitive functions may be gained.
