Description
Fermilab grounds. Elevated view from the Robert Rathbun Wilson Hall, Fermilab, USA, showing facilities and landscaped grounds to the south-west of the building. Fermilab, the US National Accelerator Laboratory, founded in 1967, is located in Batavia, Illinois. The campus covers an area of over 25 square kilometres. Parts of the grounds are being allowed to revert to their natural prairie state. The ringed area lies on top of the underground Booster Ring that feeds particles into the main Tevatron ring (off to the left, shut down 2011). Particles detected at Fermilab include the top and bottom quarks, and the tau neutrino.
