Description
Granite. Close-up of granite with quartz inclusions (pink). Granite is an igneous rock made from cooled magma. The inclusions are due to quartz (silicon dioxide) crystals forming in cracks within the granite. Granite consists of quartz, feldspars and usually also a mica. Its hardness means that it is hard to erode, forming outcrops and highland areas. Photographed at Whitesand Bay in Cornwall, England.
