Description
Precambrian stromatolites. Dating from 800 million years ago, these are some of the oldest stromatolites in Namibia. A stromatolite is a sedimentary structure formed by the trapping and binding of particles by communities of marine micro-organisms, particularly cyanobacteria (blue-green algae). Photographed at the Moringa waterhole, Halali, Namibia.
