Galapagos penguin. View of a Galapagos penguin (Spheniscus mendiculus) standing on a rock. These small penguins are only found on the Galapagos Islands, off the west coast of South America. They live in small colonies and feed on small fish and crustaceans which they hunt and chase in the surrounding ocean. They may reach a height of around 50 centimetres, and weigh about 2 kilograms. They themselves are hunted by sharks and seals when they are in the water, but adults have no natural predators on land. Photographed on Bartholome Island, one of the Ecuadorian Galapagos Islands.
