Description
Treatment for blocked femoral artery. Coloured angiograms (blood vessel X-rays) of the right knee of a 77-year-old man with diabetes, showing before (left) and after (right) images for the treatment of a blockage of the inferior femoral artery. The blockage, which developed due to complications from diabetes, resulted in a gap in the blood flow of several centimetres (upper left). The treatment involved the use of balloon catheters inflated inside the artery to restore the blood flow. The operation is known as percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA).
