Description
Tabulating machine. This machine is located at the Census Bureau, at the Department of Commerce, Washington DC, USA. This type of machine, used by the United States Census Bureau, was based on card puncher technology. Holes were punched into the cards according to a prearranged code. The tabulating machines were then used to collate the data and compile national statistics. This photograph dates from 1919, and is from the Harris and Ewing Collection.
