Description
Star trails over Parthenon. Star trails are caught by long-exposure photography. The lines of light are made by the movement of the stars through the night sky as the Earth rotates. Different colours of the trails reveal the variety of colours of the stars and their distances from the Earth. The Parthenon in Athens was built in 447-438 BC during the Athenian Empire and dedicated to the Greek Goddess Athena. In turn a Christian church and a Turkish mosque, it was finally used as a gunpowder store before being reduced to ruins when the Venetians bombarded the Acropolis in 1687.
