Description
A time exposure of a solitary Perseid meteor streaking against a starry night sky over a rural landscape in the UK. The Perseids are meteors seen around 12th August each year which appear to originate from the direction of the constellation Perseus. These meteors are small dust particles from a cometary dust trail left by Comet Swift Tuttle. As the Earth passes through the stream, a large number of dust particles enter the atmosphere and burn up, creating a bright trail. At its peak, the Perseid shower has about one meteor per minute. Photographed in Shropshire, United Kingdom 2015.
